WORK was due to start today to carry out improvements to the roads and pavements in Chichester town centre.

Workers will be replacing damaged and uneven paving slabs and carrying out other small jobs such as repairing bollards and cleaning out footway drainage channels.

West Sussex County Council said the work would focus on small, localised areas to minimise disruption while access to shops would be maintained at all times.

A spokesman for the council said the work will take around six weeks to complete.
