SEWERS in Portsmouth are set to undergo major improvements starting next month.
Southern Water is planning to repair almost two miles of old sewer pipes as part of the company’s wastewater renovation programme.
The first phase of work started yesterday with CCTV surveys and sewer cleansing operations, and the proper sewer renovation work will begin in September and last around six months.
While the work is being carried out the company said it will be working closely with Portsmouth City Council to ensure it is completed as quickly as possible and causes only minor disturbances.
It added that local residents and businesses will be kept updated on its progress and admitted some roads – which have yet to be identified – may have to be closed.
