THE new boss of South West Trains has vowed to reduce the number of on-board announcements – two years after a plea by an MP.
David Willetts, MP for Havant, demanded action because the 80-minute commute between his constituency and London was interrupted by up to 50 announcements.
In a webchat yesterday Tim Shovellor responded to a question from a frustrated commuter on the subject.
He said: ‘Over the past few months we have carried out a full review of our on-board announcements, and have embarked on a project to reduce these.’
He added: ‘The first phase of this project was completed towards the end of last year and the second phase will be completed and distributed to our fleet in May 2012. The number of automated announcements will have reduced dramatically since the start of the year and this will be further improved in May.’
