A TAXI driver who was hit by a van on the A27 is recovering in hospital with leg injuries.

The cabbie, who works for Havant firm Andicars, crashed into a Ford Mondeo, which had struck the central reservation, near Farlington Marshes, early Wednesday morning.

He got out of the car but was then hit by a van.

The 44-year-old was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital, Cosham, where he is being treated.

His 49-year-old male passenger sustained minor injuries in the crash.

Doug Anderson, of Andicars, said: ‘Our driver was outside the taxi and was trying to phone for an ambulance to see to the passenger he had in the car.

‘As a company we have been trying to track the man down, who is known to us as Mr Coles, to see if he is all right.

‘Our driver is in hospital recovering from his leg injuries.

‘That is all we can say at the moment.’

The accident, which happened at 6.23am, caused traffic chaos, as there were also three other major collisions.

Anyone with information on the A27 crash should call PC Mark Fruin at Fratton Roads Policing Unit on 101, quoting Operation Dupont.
