THOUSANDS of people are set to miss out on a chance to walk through the Hindhead Tunnel because of overwhelming demand.

About 20,000 names have pre-registered for the walk-through event, where the public can walk the length of the 1.2 mile tunnel underneath the Devil’s Punchbowl.

However, there is there is only capacity for 7,000 visitors at the event, which takes place on Saturday, May 14.

Tickets have gone on sale via the website hindheadtogether.org.uk and are available on a first-come first-served basis. They are £6 for adults, £3 for children.

The £371m tunnel on the A3 is still on course to open in July.
