PEOPLE living on a new housing estate will get a new bus service.

Service 80A, which connects Fareham and Southampton, has been brought in to provide much-needed bus services for people living around the new 300-home Tanners Gate development, off Hunts Pond Road, in Titchfield Common.

Locals have worked with transport consultants Paul Basham Associates, developers Highwood Group, and bus operator First Hampshire and Dorset to get the new service.

It will run once an hour in each direction.

Andy Bullock, graduate transport planner from Paul Basham Associates, said it would provide a sustainable way for people to travel.

He added: ‘This also comes on the back of feedback from local residents, who, while satisfied with their new homes, were frustrated by the lack of access to bus services running close by.

Steve Hobbs, First’s corporate business manager said: ‘We are thrilled to be able to work with Highwood Group to provide this service.’
