RAIL passengers travelling out of Portsmouth had their journeys disrupted yesterday.

A power failure on tracks between Portsmouth and Southsea and Portsmouth Harbour caused delays of up to 40 minutes.

The disruption affected passengers travelling from Portsmouth Harbour to Fareham and Havant.

Network Rail engineers were on the line repairing the fault yesterday morning.

Normal services resumed later in the day.

The cause of the power failure is not yet known.

No trains were on the line when the fault was spotted.

A spokeswoman for Network Rail said: ‘Engineers were on the line between Portsmouth Harbour and Portsmouth and Southsea fixing the problem as soon as they could.

‘Unfortunately, there were delays and changes to our timetable.

‘We would like to apologise to all of our passengers.’
