THE transport secretary is due to visit Gosport next week.

Patrick McLoughlin MP is due to arrive on Monday to look at problems drivers in the town face on a daily basis.

Gosport’s MP Caroline Dinenage has invited the minister and they will meet with officials to discuss a Stubbington bypass.

As reported, Mr McLoughlin was due to visit the town in June – that trip was cancelled due to the spending review taking longer than planned.

Ms Dinenage said: ‘The transport infrastructure is such a major issue in our area and I’ve worked hard since my election to raise this with my ministerial colleagues.

‘I‘m delighted that the Secretary of State has accepted my invitation to visit Gosport.

‘It will be really useful for him to see our transport problems up close, along with discussing potential solutions.’

Ms Dinenage will show the Secretary of State the successful Network Rail apprentice training programme at HMS Sultan, as well as the expanding Maritime and Coastguard Agency base at Daedalus.
