TWO elderly women have died following a crash on a country road.

The accident happened just before 11pm on Saturday at Upwaltham, north of Chichester.

The victims were travelling on the A285 when the vehicle they were in collided with another car at the junction with Selhurstpark Road. A police spokesman said the two women were killed and another two passengers are in a serious condition at a hospital in Brighton.

Firefighters had to put out a blaze in the other vehicle but both the occupants managed to escape uninjured.
