AN ELDERLY woman has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after she was hit by a car on a Portsmouth road.

A section of London Road, in North End, was closed between Kingston Crescent and Derby Road following the incident around 12.45pm today.

A 93-year-old pedestrian was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital, in Cosham, to be treated. It is not known whether her injuries are life-threatening.

Traffic was diverted via Gladys Avenue while the road closure was in place.

A South Central Ambulance Service spokesman said: ‘We received a call at 12.44pm and were on scene at 12.57pm.

‘We sent a rapid response vehicle and an ambulance, and the ambulance has taken her to Queen Alexandra Hospital.’

Hampshire police officers are now appealing for any witnesses to the incident to contact them.

They are asked to call Sergeant Richard Grant on 101.
