Man hit by train in Portsmouth

A MAN has survived after being hit by a train, police have said.

British Transport Police said the incident happened between Portsmouth Harbour and Fratton station.

Officers were called at 5.04am, a spokesman said.

He added: 'There was a male hit by a train, the location was between Portsmouth Harbour and Fratton.

'It's closed Portsmouth Harbour station.'

Major disruption is expected to continue until 10am.

A Southwest Trains statement said: 'Due to emergency services dealing with an incident between Fratton and Portsmouth Harbour all lines are blocked.

'Train services running to and from these stations may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 mins or revised.

'Disruption is expected until 10am.

'Emergency services have been called to an incident between Fratton and Portsmouth Harbour.

'Train services will terminate and start back from Portsmouth & Southsea or Fratton until further notice.

'Customers may also use Stagecoach buses 20, 21, 23 and 700 in the local area between Fratton and Portsmouth Harbour in both directions.

'Bus Routes: 20 and 21 run every 10 minutes.

'Customers may also use rail tickets on Southern, First Great Western and South West Trains services via any reasonable route.'
