AN ELDERLY woman has died after a two-car crash.

Hilda Cubberley, 79, from Wickham, was a front seat passenger in a red Rover when it collided with a grey Volvo V40 on the southbound A32 at Droxford, just before 5.50pm on Friday.

She was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital, Cosham, with multiple injuries but died on Saturday.

The 75-year-old male driver suffered a serious chest injury and is expected to stay in hospital for a number of days.

PC Scott Davison said: ‘It’s a rural road but there were some cars around at the time and we would appeal for any witnesses to come forward.’

Firefighters from Fareham were called to cut the couple free from the vehicle.

Crew manager Simon Kneller said: ‘We were called to extricate two people from a car on the A32.

‘We had to take the roof off. It took about an hour in total to release the couple.’

Police closed off the road for five-and-a-half hours while the couple were released and both vehicles were recovered.

Police officers surveyed the scene in a bid to piece together what had happened.

The 18-year-old driver of the Volvo, from Soberton, was unhurt.
