MOTORISTS faced delays after a woman was seriously hurt in a crash.

Police shut Rookery Avenue between Yew Tree Drive and Whiteley Way after the Peugeot she was driving hit a traffic island at about 9.20am today.

No other vehicles are thought to have been involved.

The woman is believed to have been seriously hurt. However it is not yet clear what her injuries are.

The bus gate onto Botley Road was been opened by Fareham Borough Council to allow access to the Fareham half of Whiteley.

First Bus diverted buses via Botley Road to run through Sweethills Crescent.

Whitley Primary School was alerted and staff advised parents.

The woman involved in the crash was taken to the Queen Alexandra Hospital in hospital where her condition is described by police as serious but not life threatening.

The road was full re-opened shortly before 1pm.

Police are investigating the collision. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Fratton Roads Policing unit, quoting Operation Ruskin, on 101.
