A female pedestrian is in hospital with serious head injuries after being knocked down by a car in Gosport.

The 59-year-old woman was hit by a blue Citroen C3 at the junction of Cambridge Road and Hartington Road on Tuesday morning.

Police have only today released details of the incident.

The woman, from Gosport, was taken to Southampton General Hospital where she is being treated for a serious head injury.

The driver of the car, a 74-year-old man from Gosport, and his 67-year-old passenger, were uninjured in the crash which happened at just after 10:50am.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
