Two injured in road accident

A MAN was cut from his car after a crash that left part of a busy Portsmouth road closed yesterday.

A Volkswagen Passatt driven by a woman and a Daihatsu Cuore driven by a man collided on Holbrook Road, near the junction with Lake Road, in Fratton, at 9.10am yesterday.

Firefighters from Southsea station cut the roof off the Daihatsu, and free the trapped driver.

An ambulance took him to Queen Alexandra hospital in a spinal brace.

The woman was taken to hospital with a suspected neck injury but did not need neck support.

The road was blocked while the work took place and remained shut for almost an hour reopening at 10am when the council's road maintenance company Colas had cleared the debris.

Police, paramedics and two fire engines from Southsea station attended the accident.

Traffic cleared soon after 10am.
