CHILDREN’S author Jacqueline Wilson will be holding a talk and having afternoon tea to celebrate her latest novel.

The popular writer will be coming to Gosport to mark the release in the latest Hetty Feather series Little Stars.

The Hayling Island Bookshop has organised the event which includes an hour-long talk and the chance for families to have tea and cake with her.

Both events are happening in the town – one at Bay House School and the other at the restored Bakery in Royal Clarence Yard.

Marie Telford, the owner of The Hayling Island Bookshop, said: ‘We are excited to be able to run not one but two events with the amazing Jacqueline.

‘She is one of the hardest-working and best-liked authors in publishing.

‘In keeping with Hetty Feather’s Victorian setting we have chosen two venues with appropriate Victorian ties.

‘Bay House was much visited by celebrated Victorians including Sir Robert Peel and the Duke of Wellington and Thackeray and Macaulay were also frequent literary visitors.’

Philippa Dickinson, who worked with Jacqueline Wilson in publishing, said she was excited to be inviting the writer to her home town.

‘It’s been an enormous privilege to have been Jacqueline Wilson’s publisher for many years,’ she said.

‘Now I am delighted to be to be welcoming her to Royal Clarence Yard and helping Gosport celebrate the publication of her new book, Little Stars.

‘I love the Hetty Feather books and I think I am just as excited about Jacqueline’s visit here as her young fans will be.

‘I am also pleased to be working again with The Hayling Island Bookshop.’

The events are taking place on October 17. The talk at Bay House School is at 11.30am and tickets are £13.

Afternoon tea will be at 3pm at Royal Clarence Yard and tickets are £18. Tickets include a copy of the novel.
