AN adapted car tyre will provide the perfect home for a bird of prey.
Phil Lavender, from Clanfield, who makes bird boxes, has put up the kestrel box at Billy’s Lake, a beauty spot near Wecock Farm.
The tyre has been camouflaged to help it blend into the woods.
The area is the focus of a community project to revamp the lake and its surrounding.
John Welford, conservation officer for Billy’s Lake, said: ‘It’s a good addition.
‘We need more nesting sites. Kestrels and owls are struggling for sites as they are in competition with other birds.
‘With the poor weather conditions and the loss of some of the trees, this is an added extra and gives them somewhere to shelter. We just need to keep the squirrels out!’
Mr Welford has a wildlife camera and if kestrels do nest, footage may be captured.
