THE world record for the largest ukulele ensemble, previously held by Hampshire County Council’s music service, was broken this month in Tahiti.

Council chairman Colin Davidovitz expressed his congratulations after Hampshire’s record was broken by more than 4,000 participants at Tahiti’s International Ukulele Festival on Saturday.

Last July, Hampshire’s music education hub organised 2,370 ukulele players to play in St Mary’s Stadium in Southampton.

Cllr Davidovitz said: ‘Our win was a great achievement while it lasted.’
