Portsmouth-born star Josh Cuthbert will have to wait to perform in front of his hometown audience after his gig was cancelled.

Fans will have to wait for the chance to catch a glimpse of Josh in the flesh with his band Union J’s Tiger Tiger gig on Friday called off because of TV commitments.

The venue has hosted contestants from this year’s X Factor competition including the controversial Rylan Clarke last Friday.

Boy band sensations Union J proved a huge hit on the popular ITV show before making an emotional exit in Sunday’s semi-final.

Following the foursome’s exit from the competition on Sunday, Josh took to the band’s official Twitter feed to express his disappointment.

He said: ‘Just moved out of the hotel...weird as I’ve been there for three months!

‘Had an emotional hug with the boys and we all teared up.’

He later tweeted: ‘Extremely emotional right now.’

Josh’s mum Kathryn Browne admits the rising star was ‘sad’ to leave the competition.

She said: ‘Josh is very, very sad about it, and disappointed.

‘But I think they knew they were probably going to be going.

‘Not that they wanted to. They tried everything they could possibly think of to encourage their fans to vote for them right up until the last minute.

‘But I’ve no doubt that they’re got a big future ahead of them.

‘They’re probably going to be one of the most successful acts to come out of the show.

‘It may be the end of X Factor but it’s not the end of Union J.’

She went on, ‘I feel quite emotional at the moment. We’ve been living with X Factor since the summer.

‘It’s been quite exhausting in terms of the emotions that come with it all – the adrenalin rush every weekend!’

Mrs Browne, who lives near Windsor, said her son was a ‘real Pompey lad’ at heart.

Union J have been tipped as the UK’s next big boy band and drawn comparisons with heartthrobs One Direction.

Josh, 20, was born at St Mary’s Hospital in Milton Road, Milton, Portsmouth.

He attended St Jude’s CE Primary School in Southsea before moving to Windsor with his family when he was five.

Remaining X Factor contestants Jahmene Douglas, James Arthur and Christopher Maloney will battle it out for the coveted crown in the final in Manchester this weekend.
