SESSIONS are being held to help residents unlock their sporting potential and go from ‘couch to 5k’.

Portsmouth City Council is offering to guide people through the running programme which could see participants running 5km (3.1 miles) in 30 minutes.

Couch to 5k slowly introduces beginners to running, starting with a mix of walking and running intervals and gradually increasing running times in a 10-week period.

Anyone who wants to set a further goal, such as 10km (6.2 miles) can get help from run leaders to achieve this distance too.

Matt Birch, sports officer at Portsmouth City Council, said: ‘This is the perfect opportunity for anyone who’s ever wanted to start running but not felt they have the motivation or willpower to keep going. This course breaks it down into simple steps in order to achieve results.’

Sessions are from £2 and are on Mondays at midday, Wednesdays at 5.30pm and Thursdays at 6pm. Call Alexandra on (023) 9282 1803 or Tracy on (023) 9289 2017.
