THE A3 northbound has been re-opened following an accident that caused long delays.

A section of the road was shut after one person was reported trapped in a vehicle following the early-morning crash close to Old Portsmouth Road at Thursley.

Queues were reported back to Liphook as drivers were warned to expect delays of up to an hour.

At 8am, Hampshire Police said that the northbound section of the road was likely to remain closed for around two hours.

But shortly before 9am the tunnel was opened and traffic was starting to flow freely.

However, there were still delays because the tailbacks were miles back at Liphook.

The closure also caused long delays for Stagecoach bus services using the tunnel.
