A ROAD in Portsmouth has been reopened after a woman was hit by a bus.

Copnor Road, in Hilsea, had been shut in both directions since 5pm today following the serious incident but is now open.

A South Central Ambulance Service spokesman said that the 59-year-old from Portsmouth suffered serious head and leg injuries and she was flown to hospital.

The air ambulance landed in Hilsea after the accident which involved a Stagecoach single-decker bus.

Scas, which was called at 4.55pm, also sent out an ambulance, a rapid response vehicle, and an ambulance officer.

The woman was taken to Southampton General Hospital, which has a specialist neurological department.
