A MAN has suffered head injuries and is in a critical condition after he was struck by a car driven by Pompey player Scott Allan.
The incident, involving the pedestrian and the 20-year-old’s Audi Q7, happened at 8.50pm last night in Waverley Road.
It is understood Allan was questioned by police after having a slow-moving collision with a pedestrian, who fell over behind his car.
But the Pompey player was not arrested and no further action is expected to be taken.
Hampshire Constabulary said that the pedestrian, from Southsea, was seriously injured and was treated by paramedics and taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital, Cosham, by ambulance.
He was later transferred to the neurological unit at Southampton General Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.
Waverley Road was closed for two hours as police officers conducted an investigation.
An appeal for witnesses has been put out by the police.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Sergeant Wayne Voller at Fratton Road Policing Unit on 0845 045 45 45, quoting Operation Finch.
Allan is in his second loan stint to Pompey from West Brom and today was sent off in their FA Cup first-round match against Notts County.
He was uninjured in the accident.
