FIREFIGHTERS were called to a car fire after a camper van burst into flames while on the road.
The driver pulled over when he noticed smoking coming from the bonnet of his van while driving in Hayling Avenue, Baffins.
Once outside the car he saw there were flames coming out of the engine and by the time two fire crews arrived on the scene – at 2.10pm yesterday – the car was engulfed in flames.
Police closed the road for around 20 minutes while firefighters worked to put out the blaze.
Amateur photographer Barry Day happened to be passing the street when the incident took place.
The 67-year-old, of Lakeside Avenue, Baffins, said: ‘The car was only about four or five metres from people’s houses and the hairdressers. It was very worrying, I’m surprised there wasn’t more damage.’
