A VILLAGE shop can now say it has the best pasties in Hampshire.

Southwick Village Store, on High Street, Southwick, took part in a pasty competition in Cornwall – the home of the pasty – and its ghost chilli pasty was named top in Hampshire.

Richard Shaw, baker at the store, went along to the Eden Project to show off its top pasty which is billed as the spiciest in the world.

Their unique ingredients and hot flavour landed the Southwick Village Store in eighth spot overall.

Entries for the competition came from around the world with 160 entries and more than 400 pasties that needed judging.

Richard said: ‘Our ghost chilli pasty is now not only the hottest chilli pasty on the planet but also the eighth best pasty in the world for looks, crimping, filling and taste.

‘The event itself was brilliant, the Eden project is awe-inspiring and to walk away with a top-10 world ranking spot is amazing due to the short time I have been baking.’

Richard has been at the store for a year and had never baked before taking over.
