The Rev Helen Higgin-Botham, Minister at Gosport United Reformed Church (St Columba’s) talks about the church’s week-long summer holiday club and forthcoming events.

You might have heard of the digital computer game Guardians of Ancora.

It’s an amazing virtual world that children can enter and a place where Bible stories come alive.

Here at St Columba’s in Elson Road, Gosport, we have just finished a week-long summer holiday club for six to 11-year-olds, based on the popular game.

About 37 children and our team of volunteers all became Guardians in training for the week, searching for lost Bible story treasures which, when found, brought the light back to the city of Ancora.

It was a lot of hard work but great fun too.

This is the fourth year running that we have held a summer holiday club and we’re already looking forward to next year’s.

The club builds on the regular groups for children and young people that meet during term time.

‘Pilots’ is a group for seven to 11-year-olds which meets on Tuesdays between 6pm and 7.30pm.

We have lots of fun with craft activities, singing and sometimes baking. We will meet again on Tuesday, September 13.

Every other Saturday is Youth Night, a space for 11-16-year-olds to meet between 7pm and 8.30pm.

All are welcome to both of these groups.

Do come along if you are interested or get in touch if you’d like to find out more about what else we do for all ages.

Our next exciting event is a Circus Praise Party, inspired by children’s songwriter and worship leader Duggie Dug Dug.

St Columba’s will be transformed into an indoor circus for the event starting at 3.30pm on Sunday, October 16.

There will be aerial skills, aerial hoop, acrobatics and juggling as well as lots of Duggie Dug Dug’s songs and puppets, all with a Bible theme.

Tickets are £1 and are available from the church or by calling 07501 336291.

Spaces are limited so please book early to avoid disappointment.
