WALES manager Chris Coleman will be opening a church fair this weekend.

He will be joined by his wife and television presenter Charlotte Jackson Coleman at the Newtown Church Fete, near Wickham.

Chris, who took over the Wales job in 2012, and Charlotte got married at the church and the pair are looking forward to the event on Saturday.

Charlotte said: ‘Newtown has always been very special to Chris and I. We were married here in 2015 and my family are from the village.

‘We’re delighted to be opening the famous church fete.

‘Fingers crossed, the sun shines and plenty of money is raised.’

Last year, the fair raised £14,000 for community projects including The Rowans Hospice in Purbrook and the Countess Mountbatten Hospices.

More than 1,000 attended with 150 villagers helping to put on the event.

Sue Wells, one of the organisers said: ‘We’re thrilled that Chris and Charlotte are able to be part of our fete this year.

‘It’s lovely that they are so keen to support us.’

The fair will have stalls, shows, a dog show, classic cars and a working steam engine.

There will be live music too for families to enjoy.

It is on Saturday in the gardens of Meonwood, Woodend at 1.30pm.
