A STUDENT is flying high after winning a hot air balloon trip for capturing the ‘best view’ in the country – of HMS Warrior.
Simonas Serpenskas beat competition from more than 1,000 entries to the competition on social networking site Facebook with his shot of the historic ship in Portsmouth.
The 22-year-old, who is from Lithuania and attends the University of Portsmouth, said: ‘I wanted to photograph some of the great sights around the city. I entered the HMS Warrior picture into the competition, but never thought I would win so I am delighted. I am really looking forward to seeing the countryside from the air. It should be amazing.’
Simonas and a guest can take the flight over the Hampshire countryside any time over the next year.
Janine Leadbeater, from developer Berkeley Southern, which ran the contest, said: ‘The competition drew entries from Dartmoor to Glen Coe and the quality and broad spectrum of subject matter was astonishing. Simonas’ picture is a spectacular composition and, by using long exposure to capture the lights, he has created a stunning, impactful image.’
