PORTSMOUTH’S Lord Mayor took a soaking during the closing celebrations of the Pearl Izumi Tour series.

Councillor David Fuller was on stage to present the trophy to JLT Condor who were crowned overall champions of the five-week series.

But in the celebrations last night, the squad of jubilant riders sprayed the city’s first citizen with four bottles of champagne.

Cllr Fuller beamed as he was chased around the stage by the team of cyclists.

Speaking afterwards, the Lord Mayor said: ‘I’m absolutely soaked but I absolutely loved it.

‘It’s been a wonderful evening.’
