WATERLOOVILLE’S MP has praised the design of the town’s new recycling centre.

The £1m facility opened within the West of Waterlooville development, off Hambledon Road, in January and replaced a cramped site nearby.

George Hollingbery said: ‘This is a fantastic amenity for the people of the area and replaces something which was frankly unfit for the needs of the 21st century.

‘It has significantly more waste container bays and customer parking spaces than the old site and it’s also better designed so that containers can be removed or changed without the need to close the whole site for 20 minutes.

‘This is important because this closure was a bugbear for many people using the old Hambledon Road facility.

‘The temporary road surface and lack of road markings are going to remain a problem until they are replaced once housing construction in the area is complete but that will be done in time.’
