IT’S a tough 70-mile trek but one well worth the pain.

Friends Andrew Fairley and Nick Birmingham will hike the Wayfarers Way non-stop, beginning in Berkshire and finishing in Emsworth.

The gruelling challenge, which is happening next May, is in aid of Hounds for Heroes, a charity which provides highly-trained assistance dogs to men and women injured in the line of duty.

The men will have a small team of volunteers to help them out but won’t even stop to sleep.

Insurance worker Andrew, 44, from Landport, said: ‘We’re already training pretty hard and have been putting in some 20-odd milers over the South Downs.

‘We’ll be increasing this distance to around the 40-mile mark with a couple of longer ones towards the end of training.

‘We’ll leave no stone unturned to be ready and make sure the 72 miles non-stop is a success in May and we do it on schedule.’
