Helping people locate friends and family they’ve lost contact with.
SPRATT: I am seeking the whereabouts of William Spratt. He lived in London but took up residence in Portsmouth in 2012.
Spratt is not a common surname and with the forename William and the connection with London, I am curious to know if this gentleman fits into my family tree. My research so far is as follows:
My grandfather’s sister, Emma Oakes, married a William Spratt in Oldham, Lancashire in 1896. He was born in Margate, Kent, in 1873 to Charles and Ann Spratt.
In 1891 the census shows the family to be at West Ham, London. William had six siblings – James, Maud, George, Alice, Emily and Albert.
In 1901, William and Emma were also living in West Ham with their daughter Alice Gertrude and son William.
The 1911 census shows William (jnr) having died, but three more sons added to the family – namely George (1904), James (1906) and Harry (1908). A daughter Violet May was born in 1910. At this time William and Emma separated.
William Spratt died in 1940, aged 67. Emma Spratt died in 1953, aged 76.
If William Spratt in Portsmouth reads this letter and recognises any of the aforementioned names, I would be pleased if he made contact with me.
I am taking a long shot, but nothing ventured, nothing gained!
