THE Spinnaker Tower was transformed into the colours of Japan’s flag to show support for the tsunami-hit nation.

The tower turned white and red yesterday, to back international relief efforts following the recent earthquake and tsunami – and it will keep these colours for the next seven days.

The World Federation of Great Towers has joined forces to display the colours and highlight the country’s ongoing need for support.

Other towers taking part included the Empire State Building and John Hancock Centre in the USA, Montreal and CN Towers in Canada, Menara Tower in Kuala Lumpar, Macau Tower in China, and Sky Tower in New Zealand.

Paul Mahy, commercial manager at the Spinnaker Tower, said: ‘By lighting up in the colours of the Japanese flag, we hope to remind people who haven’t got round to donating to the cause yet.

‘And we are showing that our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the Japanese people.’
