STAFF from Southern Electric have given a family community centre a much-needed face-lift.

The company’s business team armed themselves with rollers and paintbrushes as they set about refurbishing Whiteley Community Centre, in Gull Coppice, Whiteley.

They repainted the centre’s main hall, corridors, an art and crafts room used by children and each of the toilets.

The team of 12 got the chance to spruce up the centre through Southern Electric’s ‘Community at Heart’ programme.

The programme, which was launched in April 2010, enables staff to have a day off once a year and volunteer their services in their area.

Tyrone Garrick, customer services manager for Southern Electric, said the team were keen to help out the centre after they gave it a lick of paint last year.

‘Everyone got really stuck in and had a great time,’ he said. ‘It was great to see the place looking fantastic by the end of it and the smiles on the faces of the people there said it all.’
