Win £100 for your Christmas snap

GET your cameras at the ready – it’s nearly time for The News One Christmas Day photography contest.

Just like our popular One Summer’s Day contest, the rules for One Christmas Day are simple.

Wherever you are and whatever you’re doing tomorrow, we want you to take a photo that sums up the day and send it in to us.

If our judges pick out your entry, you’ll win a £100 gift voucher to spend at Garsons Garden Centre in Titchfield, which stocks a large range including festive food, plants, gifts and homeware.

The winning photo will also be featured in The News, along with the best of the other entries.

To help you compose a winning picture, our chief photographer Malcolm Wells has the following handy tips:

If you’re lining up a prepared shot, compose your picture carefully with no gaps.

Try to avoid a window being in the background – it can fool the electronics in the camera and your subjects end up rather dark.

Take an upright and a landscape version of your picture and pick the best one.

Avoid making silly signs in the picture – it might seem fun at the time, but they can ruin an otherwise nice photo.

Squeeze the camera shutter release positively, but not too hard.

E-mail your photos to onechristmasday@thenews.co.uk with your name, address, a daytime/mobile phone number, a description of the picture and who is in it.

Closing date for entries is midnight on Sunday, December 30.

lf you’ve got funny or quirky Christmas Day videos, we’d like to see them as well
