A MAN has been left with life-threatening injuries after he was hit by a car this evening.

Police were called to Privett Road, Gosport, at 6.49pm today.

The force said that a cyclist, believed to be in his 60s, was hit by a purple car, which did not stop at the scene.

The cyclist suffered a serious head injury and was taken to the trauma unit at Southampton General Hospital, by South Centeal Ambulance Service, where he is said to be in a life-threatening condition.

The incident happened near to the junction of The Chase.

A road closure has been put in place for part of Privett Road, between the Jellicoe Avenue junction and the Oval Gardens junction.

It is likely to remain closed for the next few hours.

Police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident, or saw a car matching that description, in the Privett Road area.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Hampshire Constabulary on 101, quoting Operation Clouded.
