A WOMAN has been charged with arson with intent to endanger life.

The 46-year-old, who has not been named by police, was charged yesterday after the blaze at a terraced property in Middle Park Way, Leigh Park, on Sunday.

As reported, two fire engines from Havant and one from Cosham tackled the blaze at 3am.

The woman was remanded in custody and was due to appear at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court at 11am today.

Police were first to arrive and led a man and woman to safety. The woman was hurt.

Firefighters put out the fire, which was contained in an upstairs bedroom.

The blaze was so fierce that the floor collapsed.

Speaking to The News on Sunday, Havant’s watch manager Lee Havey said: ‘When we turned up the occupiers had left the property with the assistance of a police officer.

‘The man and woman went to hospital.

‘The woman had broken bones.

‘She was walking, but had broken at least one bone – maybe her arm or collarbone.’

‘It was very severe. The upstairs bedroom was destroyed.’
