POLICE have confirmed that a woman has died after she was hit by a train.

British Transport Police were called to Bedhampton train station at around 8pm yesterday to reports that a person had been struck by a train.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the death is not suspicious.

South West Trains said lines between Portsmouth, Fareham and Havant were shut following the incident.

The firm put minibuses in place to carry passengers between Portsmouth Harbour station and Petersfield.
