A WOMAN has died following police being called to a car park at a popular shop.

South Central Ambulance Service said they assessed the woman at Ikea in Southampton and confirmed her death after being called at 1.23pm today.

‘We assessed one female patient at the scene,’ a spokeswoman said.

‘Following that assessment unfortunately that female patient was confirmed deceased at the scene.’

The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance also attended, along with a rapid response vehicle, two ambulance officers the hazardous area response team and an ambulance crew.

Hampshire police has officers at the car park, in West Quay Road.

The force posted on Facebook and said: ‘We are currently dealing with an incident at Ikea car park on West Quay Road.

‘We were called at 1.18pm to a report of a concern for welfare.

‘We remain on scene with South Central Ambulance Service.

‘Ikea car park and part of West Quay Road is currently closed while we deal with the incident.

‘We urge shoppers to try and avoid the area if at all possible.’

The cause of the woman’s death has not been released.
