A WOMAN was seriously injured after being hit by a car while crossing a road in Portsmouth.

Police are investigating after the accident involving the pedestrian and a red Volkswagen Corrado on Kingston Crescent on Tuesday.

The 52-year-old from the city was injured while crossing the road at 2.20pm.

She was taken to Southampton General Hospital with serious, but not threatening injuries. Her condition is described as stable.

No-one else was injured. Police are now looking for witnesses.
