A motorcyclist has been killed in a road accident in Fareham.

Police were called at 1.06pm today after a Fiat and a black motorcycle were involved in a collision on The Avenue.

A Hampshire Constabulary spokesman said: ‘Both vehicles were conducting manoeuvres at the set of traffic lights at the junction with Catisfield Road opposite the Oast & Squire pub.

‘The motorcyclist, a woman in her 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police are in the process of identifying her and contacting next of kin.

‘The woman driving the Fiat was checked by ambulance crews but was not seriously injured.

‘The eastbound carriageway of The Avenue towards Fareham is closed at this section while police investigate the scene. It is likely to remain closed for some time and drivers are advised to use the diversions in place.

Police say they would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or saw either vehicle driving prior to it.
