A WOMAN who fell asleep while smoking a cigarette set fire to her settee.

Two fire engines and 10 firefighters were called to Coulmere Road, Gosport, at 9.30pm yesterday.

The fire, in the living room of a first-floor flat, caused partial burns to the settee and the carpet.

The women was woken up by her smoke alarm.

Crews tackled the fire and the woman was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital, Cosham.

A fire investigation is currently taking place.

Meanwhile Fareham firefighters tacked a car engine blaze in the early hours of this morning.

One crew was called to Park Gate, near to the Allied Carpets store, at 1.15am.

The engine compartment of a Toyota 4x4 was alight on arrival.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
