IF YOU go down to the woods today, you may be in for a surprise thanks to the work of chainsaw sculptor Paul Sivell.

Mr Sivell, from the Isle of Wight, has created this stunning sculpture of a heron at Holly Hill Woodland Park in Sarisbury Green on commission for Fareham Borough Council.

Council arborists had discovered the lakeside tree might need removing, but after discussions it was decided that it could instead be turned into a sculpture.

Children from Sarisbury Infants School were also involved in choosing the design.

Mr Sivell recently completed another piece from the stump of a storm damaged tree next to Bells Lane in Stubbington.
