IMPROVEMENTS to skateparks in Fareham will start in the new year.

Two will undergo a makeover thanks to a £150,000 grant from Fareham Borough Council.

Freestyle Skate Parks will be building the new concrete facilities at Park Lane and Abshot Road.

The skatepark in Park Lane will be in a more central place in the park and will include a new mini-ramp, quarter pipes, jump box, pole jam, curved ledges, handrails, stair sets and a 4.5ft spine.

The work is expected to take nine weeks and once complete, the old skating facilities will be removed.

Improvement works to the Abshot Road skatepark will take around four weeks.

Executive member for leisure and community, Councillor Connie Hockley said: ‘Both of the skate parks have been designed with the help of local young people, so that we could make sure that we meet the needs of everyone.

‘These improvements will mean that the residents can enjoy new, modern facilities in a safe environment.’
