CHILDREN in Waterlooville are getting a new dinosaur-themed play area soon.

Refurbishment work started on the play area on Elizabeth Road this week.

The new play area, which is owned by Havant Borough Council will be bright and colourful with a dinosaur theme.

The equipment will include wobbly bridges, crawling, climbing, rotating, swinging, sliding and jumping apparatus.

The old play area equipment was removed on Tuesday.

Installation of the new pieces will take three to four weeks to complete and will cost £70,000. The funding has come from Section 106 funds – contributions from developers.

The work was originally scheduled to take place late last year but had to be postponed due to the wet weather.

The Havant Borough Council community team organised several consultation events about it last year.

Local residents, children and parents then voted for the types of equipment they would like to see installed.
