SAFETY fears have been raised after cuts were made to the fire service.

The number of fire engines in West Sussex will be reduced from 45 to 35 in a bid to save £1.6m from the budget.

Both Chichester and Bognor fire stations will be losing three firefighters following the review.

But former West Sussex firefighter Dave West said: ‘The service is making this decision on statistics and statistics can be manipulated in many ways. The decision is not a wise one and smacks purely of senior staff gambling with numbers and statistics.’
