WORSHIPPERS have raised £1,000 towards the refurbishment of their church building in Portsmouth.

The money was raised by ticket sales from a concert held by Sarisbury Big Band inside All Saints’ church in Commercial Road, Landport, on Sunday evening.

A raffle and cake sale also helped to pull in the amount, which will go towards converting the church’s current reception area into a lounge.

As part of the work, which will cost £200,000, the church is looking to spruce up a community room which is used by local brownie and rainbow groups.

Michael Pye, who has been the vicar at All Saints’ for four and a half years, said: ‘Several parts of the church are in need of repair. We’re doing all we can to raise money so we can give the place a lift. It’s not just about giving people a warmer place to go – it’s about lifting their spirits and aspirations.’
