CHILDREN are releasing the actors within them as they prepare to write, direct, and produce their own pantomime.

Youngsters from five to 13 have been taking part in acting workshops, where they have to come up with a production by themselves.

They have written their own scripts and allocated parts to each other for the show at Merchistoun Hall, Horndean, from 3.15pm tomorrow.

Leader of the Holiday Arts Workshops Tamara Banks said: ‘We teach why certain things are done in drama, like certain phrases which are used and things like not turning their backs to the audience, voice projection.

‘It’s not just doing a play, it’s learning how to perform and why.’

The week also included a variety of Christmas-themed activities such as children hanging up stockings for Father Christmas to fill for their pretend Christmas Day.

Tamara added: ‘It’s a mixed age group which children don’t often get to experience, so it’s good for them socially.’

Luke Edney, 11, has been going to the workshops for years.

His mum Karen said: ‘He loves it.

‘It brings the children out of themselves.

‘Some come along shy at first but they aren’t afterwards.’
