THE number of young unemployed people in the area has fallen, according to new figures.

Hampshire County Council says the number of young people without jobs fell by 7.5 per cent between April and May.

This means the overall unemployment rate for people aged between 16 and 24 has dropped from 3.2 per cent to 2.9 per cent.

Councillor Roy Perry, the council leader, said: ‘The latest figures show the economy for
Hampshire and the south east
is growing, and at a good pace, which is excellent news.

‘The county council and its partners have been working hard to build on Hampshire’s economic strengths, bring investment into the county, encourage new business and drive regeneration.’
