ZIZZI’S restaurant in Chichester has been evacuated after a lorry reversed in to scaffolding in the building.

Five police cars and a fire engine were at the scene, after they were called to South Street at 1.45pm today.

The road has been closed to motorists.

A police spokesman said: “We were called at 1.45pm today after a lorry struck scaffolding in South Street.

“The road has been closed because the incident has caused the scaffolding to become unsafe.

“The building that the scaffolding is attached to has been evacuated while the scene is made safe.”

A West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said the crew had removed scaffolding from the lorry.

A building inspector from Chichester District Council was called to the scene to inspect the damage.
